Africa Cruises

    About the Region

The term "Dark Continent" is largely attributed to Henry Morton Stanley, a Victorian explorer who used "dark" to simply mean mysterious.  At that time, the continent hadn't been well explored and truly was a mystery.  It still holds plenty of mystery for travelers.

    Nile

We owe another Victorian, Thomas Cook, for beginning the era of modern cruising to the Nile in 1871.  The SS Sudan is a steamship from that era still plying the Nile waterway yet today.  Or go back even further in time and sail on a Dahabiya.

Many more options from vintage royal steamers, sleek modern river cruisers or small ships entice travelers to sail the Nile as they would dream of doing.  There are options for everyone.  Reasonably priced sailings make multi-generational travel an attractive option.

Most cruises run from Luxor upstream to the Aswan damn or the reverse.  Cairo is about an hour flight or 8 hour drive downstream from Luxor & a typical part of a cruise package.

    Namibia & Zambia

Enjoy houseboat cruising on Zambezi and Chobe Rivers in an area know for its elephant population.  Be prepared to also see lion, antelope, hippopotamus, buffalo and leopard as well. The area borders Zimbabwe, Zambia, Namibia and Botswana.

    West Africa

Cruise the Gambia river in a region known for it's biodiversity of 3 terrestrial ecosystems. Gambia is a known "birder" hot spot with over 550 species of birds.  Visit UNESCO sites and nature reserves along the journey

Cape Verde is made up of volcanic islands.  Due to is natural isolation, it is home to numerous unique native species. Endangered species of bird and reptile as well as a world top 10 coral reef destination.

    East Africa

The islands off the east coast of Africa make the ideal vacation both winter and summer due to the warm climate.

The Republic of Seychelles is a group of 115 islands making it ideal for exploration by water.  Explore tropical forests, sand beaches and underwater treasures.

The island nation of Madagascar is rich in floral and fauna.  90 percent of the 25,000 species found on the island, are only found there.
