Unique Train Journeys

Train fans are loyal.  They are always excited to experience a bit of the past whether it's traveling behind steam, a restored carriage or travel on an historic line of track.  Because of this, there are occasional journeys that build travel around exactly what train buffs love.

New opportunities appear from time to time.  They are distinctive journeys that most likely would not be repeated as is.  They may come back the next season with a new route or dates but always something very interesting to train fans.

Some of the journeys you sleep on the train for the full trip as you go from destination to destination.  These are the land cruises.  

The other type of journey is much more "train" centered as each day may contain an excursion that is focused on the theme of trains and railways.  With these journeys you might sleep on a over night train but will will most likely stay completely in hotels. 

A special note about these journeys in America.  Overnight journeys are limited to where Amtrak travels (for the most part).  It's against the law to put a passenger carriage on a train hauling freight.  So whether it's a special itinerary or a private carriage hire, you are mostly likely still hostage to Amtrak's lines and times.
